Our Host Organizations

Host organizations are local institutions, Associations, NGOs, governmental bodies, international institutions with local offices, Social enterprises, startups, or community-based organizations in Ghana that receive and work with volunteers, both national and international, as part of their programs or projects. They provide a platform for volunteers to make meaningful contributions to development efforts in various sectors.

Host organizations are key stakeholders in the Volunteering ecosystem in Ghana. Their responsibilities typically include:

  • Identifying Volunteer Opportunities
    Host organizations assess their operational needs and identify areas where volunteers can make impactful contributions, such as education, health, environment, youth development, gender equality, or cultural preservation.
  • Creating a volunteer mission form
    They provide clear descriptions of roles, expectations, working hours, required skills, and potential outcomes of the volunteer experience, as well as participating in the volunteer recruitment process, and supporting with accommodation.
  • Welcoming and Orienting Volunteers
    Welcome volunteers and introduce them to the organizational culture and work environment. Appoint a mentor or supervisor for the volunteer, provide day-to-day guidance, and ensure that volunteers have the tools and support needed to be effective.
  • Cultural Exchange and Integration
    Facilitate cultural immersion by involving volunteers in community events and encouraging language learning, and promoting interactions with local staff and community members.
  • Impact Evaluation and Feedback
    Help assess the volunteer’s work and overall experience, providing reports or feedback to volunteers and their sending organizations.

Requirements to Become a Host Organization

To host volunteers, organizations must:

  • Be legally registered and active in Ghana.
